Paws and Claws, our annual celebration of wildlife and the people who care about wildlife was a great party enjoyed by over 100 wonderful people who attended!
Sandy Greene, our president, highlighted the year so far:
- We expect close to 800 distressed critters will have passed through our doors by year end which is over 2,000 in the last 3 years.
- Since 2013 our education team has taken our message that Saving Wildlife Saves Us to over 8,000 people, including 3,000 year-to-date.
- Sadly, our education screech owl Little Wise Guy recently died but, happily, we rehabbed an albino bunny that cannot be released but has been added to our education team.
- Marbles, our newest education screech owl who is blind and not releasable, made his debut on the leather glove of Pat Benik, our raptor rehabber. Too cool!
- All of our 60 plus volunteers who are AWESOME and PRICELESS were applauded for their contributions.
- TCWC received a major grant from a large Trust for Animals in northern California who were impressed with our care giving and education programs.
- GOLD Status was awarded by GuideStar, a leading source of information for over 1.5 million charities. Only 16 of the 316 wildlife rehab nonprofits in California have achieved GOLD and we are ONE of them!
- Our new home and bird nursery at 80 Ridge Road is almost move-in ready. Millions of thanks to the Feed Barn for providing bird nursery space for so many years, which we have outgrown since so many birds are coming to us for care.
- 89 cents of every dollar given to us is used for animal care and education which is far beyond the average 65 to 75 cents dedicated by most nonprofits to their programs.
- The Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West prepared and served a wonderful meal.
- Bruce Whiteman, our small mammal rehabber, along with Susan Manning, our Director of Animal Care, gave us video presentations that had us all howling with laughter or sighing with awe.
- Mark Hirschel, our fawn rehabber, shared how scary the Butte fire was for our fawns-in- care since the fire started very close to our fawn enclosure on his land. Thanks to him and the other Butte fire heroes for saving our critters!
- Doreen Erhardt, our artist on call, gave us all tips about shopping on the TCWC Zazzle store that she created and manages. 100% of the proceeds from all sales on the store go to TCWC and if we enter the store from pawspartners.org, additional money is sent to us.
- Alba Arosio, our treasurer, also reminded us how to designate TCWC to receive a percentage of our Raley’s and Save Mart shopping.
