Prepare!
The best defense against any disaster is to be prepared.
1 - Know what you will need and keep it on hand.
2 - Know what to expect when you are asked to evacuate
3 - Have a plan in place, including where to go and who to contact.
If you have to evacuate:
- Leave early while roads are clear
- You will be notified by Reverse 911 or an evacuation team member. You will be directed to the evacuation center.
- Obey directions of law enforcement and fire officers.
- Drive carefully. Others will be evacuating as well. Be courteous.
- Keep your vehicle tank full
Before you leave home:
- Turn on house interior lights
- Close heavy drapes; remove lace or lightweight curtains
- Close windows and doors
- Leave driveway gate OPEN
- Gather your Evac Kits - download the list to prepare your Evac Kits listed to the left.
- Put your Evac Kit in the car along with your small pets.
- Transport large animals to the large animal evac center as directed by law enforcement officers.
Despite what you see in the movies, a wet rag/towel over your mouth is dangerous.
Use only dry cloth. A wet cloth will produce hot steam and may burn your lungs.
