Save The Kittens
A-PAL frequently partners with our county animal shelter in our effort to save the lives of cats and kittens in Amador County. In 1988, our local shelter took in an average of 2,400 animals annually with a save rate of just 15 percent. In 2021, our local shelter took in 961 animals with a save rate of 88 percent. This tremendous progress is thanks to the many volunteers who worked with Amador County shelter staff to create our Save the Kittens program, which has saved the lives of more than 11,000 kittens and cats since 1999.
A-PAL takes in kittens and cats from our local shelter for our Save the Kittens program. The tiny felines receive age- appropriate vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery before being made available for adoption. With the help of our foster homes, we are able to get proper care for weak kittens, feed bottle babies, tame feral kittens, and prepare all of our baby felines for their upcoming forever homes. Kittens are introduced to other cats, dogs and kids to prepare them for being made available at one of our adoption sites.
In 2021, more than 300 cats and kittens were adopted at our Feed Barn and PawsPartners Center adoption sites. With so many kittens requiring foster care, we are always in need of more foster homes. If you can foster even one litter, we want to hear from you. Fostering can be a real joy and is a great summer vacation project for a responsible teenager (with parental permission and supervision). A-PAL and the county animal shelter supply all the food, cat litter, and veterinary care while these little ones are in your home.
