Save The Kittens
A-PAL is a nonprofit organization founded in 1978 which has worked with our county shelter and volunteers. In 1988 our shelter had a 2400 animal intake annually with a save rate of only 15%. In 2021 our shelter had an intake of 961 animals with a save rate of 88%. These great numbers are thanks to the many volunteers who worked with shelter staff to create this great program that has saved over 11,000 kittens and cats lives since 1999.
A-PAL pulls kittens and cats from our local shelter and they get put them into our Save the Kittens program to receive age appropriate vaccinations and they get spayed or neutered before going up for adoption. With fosters help we are able to get proper care for weak kittens, feed bottle babies, tame feral kittens, and prepare these babies for their upcoming forever home. With foster help kittens are introduced to other cats, dogs, kids and prepare these kittens to go to the Feed Barn for adoption.
In 2021 we adopted over 300 cats and kittens through Feed Barn and our Paws Partners center. With so many kittens needing foster care we are always on the lookout for more foster homes. If you can even help foster one litter it will be a big help to A-PAL. Fostering can be a real joy, and is a great summer vacation project for a responsible teenager (with parent permission). A-PAL and the animal shelter supply all the food, cat litter, and veterinarian care while these babies are in your home. Please call Carolyn if you are interested in fostering 209-296-2590.
If you are an Amador county resident and you have kittens or a mom cat with kittens please call Amador County Animal Control at 209-223-6378 if you need further assistance you may call A-Pal 209-223-0410.
