Online Videos from Tri County Wildlife Care

Mockingbird makes a Recovery

Baby birds need high protein diets and their parents feed them insects. When people decide to raise baby birds, it can have disastrous results. For two weeks this bird was fed wet cat food which has very low protein.

According to the person surrendering this bird, it had been doing well for two weeks and was suddenly unable to perch or even stand. In just a week with a proper diet, this Mockingbird made an amazing recovery. We are thrilled at this change because usually these birds do not recover once a critical period of growth is missed with an improper diet being fed to them.

Above all, we try to allow parent birds to raise their babies. If this is not possible, we urge people to bring birds to Tri County Wildlife Care where they can get the care they need and the best chance at a life of freedom in the wild. Our facility is located at 80 Ridge Road in Sutter Creek and staffed during the baby bird season from 7am to 7pm.
