Wildlife Workshop - March 7, 2014
This annual event kicks off our "Saving Wildlife Saves Us" program, our Education commitment to our communities each year. The TCWC Education team works for months to prepare a program to enrich the knowledge of all attendees about wildlife and how we interact with them as we share the planet.
Our education team, with help from our friends at Sierra Wildlife Rescue, played to a packed house as John and Susan Manning graciously gave up their clothing department at the Feed Barn for our annual Wildlife Workshop. We had more than 100 people sign up! |
We started things off with our 'Saving Wildlife Saves Us' theme, and Susan came up with a wonderful way to engage the young ones to teach them (and the adults as well!) about how the return of the Gray Wolves to Yellowstone brought back an entire ecosystem. |
After the fun with the map, we showed a wonderful internet video presenting more information about the history of the Gray Wolves of Yellowstone.
Then we brought out the stars of the show, presenting six of the nine native owl species on our personal stage, as well as two different hawks and the smallest falcon! The youngsters gathered at the front to get up close and personal with the magnificent creatures. The incredible Great Horned Owl, presented by Judy from Sierra Wildlife Rescue. Three owls standing proud, the Screech, Saw Whet, and Pigmy Owls. Pat and "Wally", TCWC's Red Tail Hawk |
The owls take the stage! Great Horned and Spotted Owls, with Judy and Betty from Sierra Wildlife Resue. After answering questions about the owls, we brought out the hawks and falcons. Here's Judy with the Red Shouldered Hawk and here's Marty from Sierra Wildlife Rescue and the North American Kestrel. |
Tri County Wildlife Care would like to thank John and Susan Manning and the Feed Barn for disrupting their business to provide us with the facilities, and Sierra Wildlife Rescue for joining us with their education critters for this event.
