An Opossum Call - and Success!

Picture
Opossums are the only marsupial mammal in North America.  Further questioning revealed that these babies were furred.  Opossum babies are born tiny, pink and bee sized.  They crawl from the birth canal to the pouch where they attach to a nipple.

Opossums give birth to from 6-25 young 3 times a year.  The mother has only 13 nipples, so once they are born, the race is on to the pouch.  When they are old enough, the opossums ride on the mother's back.

We advised the caller to gently tip over the trash can to allow Mom and babies to leave.  This caller was excited to see the babies climb aboard to leave.

Lastly, tight fitting trash can lids keep wild ones away and safe.

THANKS FOR CARING FOR OUR WILDLIFE NEIGHBORS!
