For more than 10 years, John Liedl and his wife Mary traveled from the Bay area to Jackson so that John could be Santa in our annual Santa Paws fundraiser. After John's passing, the Santa Fund was created in his honor. The program started in 2010 with cats and dogs in A-PAL's care or at our local animal shelter who needed medical procedures, such as eye surgery, thyroidectomy, dental work, fracture repair, heartworm treatment, and other lifesaving treatments. The Santa Fund now also helps the public with procedures for their pets. To be eligible, the resident's animal must be current on vaccinations and spayed/neutered. After board approval, A-PAL will pay for 50% of the procedure, up to $500. In 2021, the Santa Fund helped with 44 procedures for local dogs and cats.
This fund may be used for owned animals as follows:
Owned animals, must be current on vaccines and spayed or neutered. The requested procedure must rectify the problem for the animal. The owner must pay for 50% of the cost of the procedure, after A-PAL approval.
A note from the veterinarian that will be peforming the procedure is required.
