One pregnant female, not spayed, turned into 35+ cats and kittens in a very short time. Thank you for your continued support of A-PAL Humane Society in rescuing these cats from these horrible conditions, getting them spayed/neutered, healthy, and finally, off to new their new homes. Please spay and neuter and encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to do so as well to prevent overpopulation and suffering.

News flash!!!!! Our wonderful boy Einstein now named Dozer is off to his new home in Shingle Springs. He will have a loving family to provide him with everything he could possibly want or need, 5 fenced acres and a little sister that might eventually let him play with her! Good luck Dozer, you are definitely going to be missed by all of the Twin Cedar Crew and our pack walks will not be the same without you! 
This is Rachel the Raccoon, who was picked up from the road having been hit by a car. After a trip to the vet (Jackson Creek Veterinary Hospital), and a couple of days of good food & a warm bed, she is improving dramatically. I think she's gonna make it! After two weeks of rehab, Rachel is released. Great job by Bruce and the Small Mammal team! The first 3 lucky cats from this awful hoarding case got a new home in Clements last night and HOORAH! More homes are still needed, if you can help, PLEASE CALL JEFF AT 304-0928. WE EVEN BRING THE CATS TO YOU!  Einstein aka Moose comes to us from the wonderful folks at the Calaveras Humane Society. Einstein is probably between 1 and 2 years old and looks like he could be a pure bread American Bulldog. As far as American Bully’s go…he is the nicest one that has ever been through Twin Cedar K9. He is smart, willing, playful, comical, great with all dogs big and small, and he has not met a person that he has not fallen in love with!! We have not tested him with cats yet but our guess is, he would probably chase them.. Einstein has been going on all of our evening pack walks off lead and has done FANTASTIC!!!! He comes every time we have called him and he plays nicely with all of the other dogs on the walk. He even likes little Pippa our little Chihuahua mix that is a Second Chance graduate herself!. Einstein has been working in the group classes on the weekends and is doing quite well with all of his obedience skills. If you are a fan of the bully breed dogs you must come out to meet this awesome boy!! A-PAL Humane Society needs your help with a cat hoarding case. A recent eviction revealed over 25 cats living in filth and in various stages of tameness. Momma Kitty's Story. "Hi! I'm Momma Kitty. I was found in a garage with my 5 babies. We were taken to the shelter and then to my wonderful foster mom. Since then, all of my sweet babies have found their fur-ever homes! I'm so happy my kittens found their homes, but now it's my turn. I'm a little shy or nervous around strangers at first, but I also LOVE to be petted and it certainly doesn't take me long to warm up to ya! As you can see in my photos, I just loved the kind little girl who came to visit me today! I can't wait to warm up to and bond with my furever family. I know some "tricks"! If you've got floor vents, you may want to secure them! This one time, I totally took the vent cover off of one and went exploring in the duct work! As you can imagine, I scared my foster mom when she couldn't find me! No worries, though! I turned up in another floor vent! One of my tattle tail foster cat brothers gave me away when he kept coming to the vent to see me! I know, I know, you're thinking..."you've got to be KITTEN me right now!" Paws honor, true story. Mama originally came to us in March of 2013, she had been rescued by a client of ours that had moved to South Lake Tahoe. The Second Chance Program is for dogs in either the Calaveras or Amador shelters that stand little chance of being adopted due to behavior problems. Once we heard Mama's story we couldn't turn her away. Mama had been dumped at the 7 Eleven at South shore and left to forage or beg for her food. When I asked how old they thought she was they stated that she was about 7-8 years old and that she was a little on the heavy side! They also said she was very sweet, house broken, loves to ride in cars, great with all people, and good with dogs. When her rescuers called the local animal shelter they stated that they were full and that they would not be able to keep her for very long and that there would be a good chance that she would be euthanized if they surrendered her to them. They advertised her for 10 days, putting flyers up all over town but no one responded to them. Well, how could I say no! I figured with her being a 7-8 year old German Shepherd that sounded like the dream dog of the century, I could find her a home in no time. So down to Twin Cedar Ranch she came. When she got out of the car I could not believe what I saw. She wasn't 7-8 years old but probably closer to 9-11 years old and on top of her advanced age, she was 35 pounds overweight! She looked as big as a house and her back was so broad we could have easily set a place setting for 3 down her back! The first thing we did was to get her into a veterinarian for a full check-up including bloodwork to be sure she was a healthy girl. Her bloodwork came back great, so on the Twin Fast Plan she went. We started her on 3 small meals a day of a grain free kibble, vitamin supplements and a joint supplement for her old and sore joints! Mama started going on out evening pack walks with the rest of the Twin Cedar Pack and when the weather warmed up she stared her swim therapy and Lake Tabeau. Her favorite thing to do there was to swim after the local ducks and chase Vito when he retrieves his tennis balls. It took Mama about four months to shed a whopping 34 pounds!! Although she feels much better without all that extra weight, due to her advanced age and being so fat for most of her life, Mama has significant arthritis in her joints. She also has a sensitive tummy that requires extra care in her feeding schedule. Because of this, Mama will live out the rest of her life with Marge` and Brian at Twin Cedar Ranch. Mama: a rescue of the first order!
A HAPPY NEW BEGINNING...Carol received a call from Arnold Vet about a Canada Goose all wrapped up in fishing line and missing a leg. Donna brought the goose to TCWC and prosthetist Mike Link of Hangar Orthopedic in Reno who works on people during the days and critters in the evenings made "Arnie" a prosthetic leg that fits perfectly. We are working on the permits to keep this bird as an education and surrogate parent bird. Why bother with a Canada Goose you might ask??? Lots of reasons, but probably most of all to try in a small way to make up for the human impact on our local wildlife.
